Alinia Information
Alinia is a nitrothiazolyl salicylamide (synthetic) derivative agent. It is an anti-protozoal drug. The drug is used for treating diarrhea which is caused due to Giardia lamblia, as well as Cryptosporidium parvum. The drug is used for the treatment of adult patients as well as pediatric patients who are > 1 year of age. Generic drug’s effect is a result of its interference with the electron-transfer reaction, which is dependent on an enzyme known as PFOR (pyruvate ferredoxin oxidoreductase). Alinia Side Effects and Precautions
The most common side effect of Nitazoxanide is pain in the stomach. However, this may not occur in all patients administering the drug. These rare effects of the drug include increase in appetite, dizziness, bloated feeling, urine discoloration or salivary gland enlargement. Dosage Information For Alinia
For treating diarrhea due to Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium parvum the recommended dose of Alinia is 5 mL (or 100 mg) for children 1-3 years old; 10 mL (or 200 mg) for children 4-11 years old, every 12 hours for 3 days.
