Eligard Information
Eligard is an agonist of the gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). It is used for palliative treatment in patients with prostrate cancer (advanced stage). It helps in suppressing the tumor growth. The drug is administered as a subcutaneous injection. The generic drug is also used for treating BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy), endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer and breast cancer. Constant administration of the drug results in the suppression of LH (luteinizing hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulating hormone). This in-turn results in decrease in the sex hormones in men as well as women. Discount Eligard is a prescription drug and is not available over the counter.
Eligard Side Effects and Precautions
Serious side effects of Leuprolide Acetate are weight gain (rapid), difficult/ painful urination, bone pain, feeling like fainting, sudden headache along with vision problems, slow heart-rate, confusion, weak pulse or slow breathing. Serious but rare side effects of Eligard are loss of bladder control, loss of bowel control, muscle weakness, unusual and painful sensation in the back or numbness/ weakness in the feet or legs.
Less serious side effects of the drug are joint pain, muscle pain, testicle pain, loss of sex-drive or impotency. Leuprolide Acetate may also lead to sleep disorders, depression, memory problem, scaling/ itching/ reddening of the skin, constipation, stomach pain diarrhea, nausea, hot flashes, chills, night sweat or clammy skin. Dosage Information For Eligard
The recommended dose of Eligard is 7.5 mg administered once every month. 22.5 mg of the drug can be administered every 3 months; 30 mg injection every 4 months; 45 mg of the drug in every 6 months.
