Emtriva is an NRTI (that is nucleoside reverse transcriptase-inhibitor). It is used as an anti-retroviral drug. The drug is used for the treatment of patients with HIV-1 infection. The drug may be used as mono-therapy or it can be co-administered along with other anti-retroviral drugs such as Truvada or Atripla. The generic drug inhibits the reverse transcriptase enzyme, an enzyme responsible for copying the RNA of the virus into the new viral-DNA.
