Hycamtin Information
Hycamtin belongs to a class of medication called topoisomerase I inhibitors. It is a semi-synthetic derivative of a plant alkaloid obtained from Camptotheca acuminate. It works by killing the cancer cells or inhibiting their growth. It is used to treat small cell lung cancer that has returned after the last dose of successful treatment with another chemotherapy medication. Hycamtin and its generic form are also used to treat ovarian cancer and cervical cancer when not responding to other chemotherapy or if surgical removal is not possible. Many drug stores now offer cheap Hycamtin.
Hycamtin Side Effects and Precautions
Rocephin (Topotecan) may cause side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite and hair loss. In case of appearance of hives, rashes, itching, or hoarseness of voice with difficult breathing or swallowing inform your doctor immediately. Some of the serious side effects of Topotecan include hives, rash, itching, hoarseness of voice and rapid heartbeats or shortness of breath, excessive tiredness, headache, dizziness, stomach pain, unusual bruising or bleeding, confusion and pale skin.

Dosage Information For Hycamtin
In ovarian cancer and small cell lung cancer the dosage of Hycamtin is 1.5 mg/m2 given as IV infused over 30 minutes for 5 consecutive days. This starts on day 1 of a 3 week course. In cervical cancer the dosage is 0.75 mg/m2 by IV over 30 minutes on days 1,2 and 3. This is followed by cisplatin 50 mg/m2 on day 1 every 3 weeks.
