Leukeran Information
Leukeran is a chemotherapy drug that is available only on prescription. This is also known as an anti cancer or anti plastic drug that is used in the treatment of Hodgkin’s disease, giant follicular lymphomas, malignant lymphomas, testicular or ovarian cancer and chronic lymphatic leukemia. This drug is also an alkylating agent that works on the DNA and RNA of the cancerous cells and binds onto them, thereby slowing down the growth of these cells. It also helps in preventing the reproduction of these cells by inhibiting the transcription and synthesis of the DNA on the cancerous cells.
Leukeran Side Effects and Precautions
Using Leukeran or Chlorambucil can cause a few common side effects like nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach, tremors, numbness and tingling sensation. If these symptoms persist or worsen, call on your doctor for further medical care. This generic drug can also induce some serious side effects like fever, seizures, headache, nausea, stomach pain, appetite loss, and jaundice, clay colored stools, dark urine, missed menstrual periods, vomiting and diarrhea. If you have any of these side effects, get emergency medical treatment.
Prior to using Leukeran or Chlorambucil, inform your doctor if you are allergic to this drug or any other similar medication.
