Neupogen Information
Neupogen is used for decreasing the incidence of infections in patients with febrile neutropenia. It is effective in those patients who have non-myeloid malignancies, who are currently on myelosuppressive anti-cancer agents. The generic drug is also used to reduce fever duration and time for neutrophil recovery. This is especially for patients having myeloid leukemia and who are on induction or consolidation-chemotherapy, as well as cancer patients who undergo bone marrow transplant. Discount Neupogen is available in reputed pharmacies and is also used for patients who undergo peripheral blood progenitor-cell (PBPC) collections and therapy. Additionally, the drug is used for patients who have severe chronic neutropenia.
Neupogen Side Effects and Precautions
Rare/ less common side effects of Filgrastim are chest pain, blurred vision, nervousness, irregular heartbeats (slow/ fast) or pounding in ears. Other rare side effects are difficulty in passing motions (stools), cracked lips or inflammation/ swelling in the mouth. Neupogen also has common side effects, which may include loss of hair or thinning of the hair, loss of appetite, loss of weight, muscle pain, bone pain or joint pain.
Other common side effects that may be associated with Filgrastim are a bloody nose, bleeding gums, stomach pain, abdominal pain, blood in stools/ urine, cough, coughing out blood, dizziness, difficulty in swallowing, headache, chills, fever, labored breathing, diarrhea, lower-back pain, pale skin, wheezing etc. Do not buy Neupogen and administer it if you are allergic to any of the contents of the drug.
Dosage Information On Neupogen
For patients on myelo-suppressive chemotherapy, 5 mcg/kg/day of Neupogen is recommended as subcutaneous (SC) injection on a daily basis. For patients undergoing bone-marrow transplant 10 mcg/kg/day is administered as IV infusion for 4 or 24 hours. For mobilization of PBPC 10 mcg/kg/day is administered SC injection. For patients with chronic neutropenia 6 mcg/kg/day is the starting dose as SC injection. Cheap Neupogen is available with North Drug Mart at 300 mcg and 480 mcg.
