Precedex Information
Precedex is normally given during intensive care units for sedation of mechanically ventilated or initially intubated patients. It is continuously infused into the patients during the complete process of extubation (including prior and post-extubation). This generic drug is used prior to surgeries when patients are on a ventilator, intubation (tube insertion into an organ) and extubation (tube removal from an organ). A reduced dosage is considered for patients above 65 years of age and patients with renal and hepatic impairments. For procedural sedation, it should be infused at 0.2 to 0.7 mcg/ kg over 10 minutes.
