Abilify Information
Abilify is an anti-psychotic (atypical) and anti-depressant drug. It is primarily used for the treatment of patients with schizophrenia and irritability caused by autistic disorder. The drug is used as monotherapy as well as adjunctive therapy for the treatment of bipolar I disorder. It is also used as an adjunctive therapy for treating major depressive disorder (MDD). The generic drug is effective in treating agitation caused by bipolar I mania and schizophrenia. The drug is a partial agonist of dopamine receptors and an antagonist of serotonin receptors. Abilify Side Effects and Precautions
Common (and less serious) side effects of Aripiprazole are drowsiness, dizziness, headache, anxiety, insomnia (sleeping problems), trouble in swallowing (or choking), constipation, weight gain or mild upset stomach. Dosage Information For Abilify
For treating schizophrenia the starting dose of Abilify is recommended as 10 mg/day - 15 mg/day, once a day. For treating bipolar I disorder the recommended dose is 15 mg, once a day for adults and 10 mg/day - 30 mg/day for pediatric patients as an adjunctive therapy. For treating MDD and irritability (with autism) the recommended dose is 2 mg/day - 5 mg/day; with a maximum dose of 15 mg/day.
