Implanon is one of the methods of birth control device for women. It is a small, flexible plastic rod containing 68 mg of a synthetic progestogen and etonogestrel which is inserted under the skin in your arm. It works by causing certain changes in the body to maintains high levels of synthetic progesterone. This prevents the release of ova from the ovaries and thus, results in prevention of pregnancy. Implanon also causes thickening of the natural mucus of the cervix neck, so it is difficult for sperms to move from the vagina into cervix.
