Rebetol is an anti-viral medication. It is used for treating chronic hepatitis-C (or CHC) viral infections. The drug is used with other drugs called interferon alfa-2b drugs that may be pegylated or non-pegylated. The drug is recommended for patients who are > 3 years of age and who have a compensated hepatic (liver) disease. This generic drug acts by inhibiting the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase in the virus. Besides, the drug interferes with the translation of some DNA in the virus. The drug also acts by enhancing the T-cells mediated immunity against the viral infections. Dosage Information For Rebetol
For treating adult patients the Rebetol dose is recommended as 800 mg to 1400 mg, based on the patient's body weight. The drug is administered along with PegIntron at a dose of 1.5 mcg/kg per week (subcutaneously). For pediatric patients, the dose is dependent on the patient's body weight. It may range from 15 mg/kg per day to 1200 mg/day, which is administered as an oral solution or capsules. Cheap Rebetol is available with North Drug Mart at doses of 200 mg and 400 mg.
