Claritin Information
Claritin is an anti-histamine agent and is structurally similar to TCAs (tricyclic anti-depressants). It is used in the treatment of allergic rhinitis. It is used effectively in providing relief from nasal as well as non-nasal symptoms of the seasonal rhinitis. The generic drug is also used in pediatric patients (< 2 years of age) for treating chronic-idiopathic urticaria. The drug is a H1 blocker which acts on the bronchial muscles as well as blood vessels. The drug reduces the naturally occurring chemical in the body called histamine. Claritin Side Effects and Precautions
Common (less serious) side effects of Loratadine are nervousness, tiredness, headache, drowsiness, diarrhea, stomach pain, dry mouth, hoarseness of the throat, sore throat, skin rashes, blurred vision, reddening of the eyes or nose bleed. Serious side effects that are associated with Claritin are uneven heart-rate, feeling like fainting (or passing out), convulsions/ seizures or jaundice-like symptoms which include yellowing of the eyes or the skin.
