Proglycem Information

Proglycem is a derivative of benzothiadiazine. The drug is used to manage hypoglycemia which may be due to hyper-insulinism that may be associated with several conditions. These conditions may include islet cell-carcinoma and extra-pancreatic malignancy in adults. It may also include islet cell-hyperplasia, leucine sensitivity, extra-pancreatic malignancy, islet-cell carcinoma or nesidioblastosis in children and infants. Thus, the generic drug can be used in treatment of infants, children, as well as adult patients. The drug acts by preventing the insulin from releasing from the pancreas. Proglycem Side Effects and Precautions

Most commonly experienced side effects of Diazoxide are weight gain (rapidly), decrease in urination and swelling of the lower legs or feet. For treating adults as well as children, 3 mg/kg to 8 mg/kg dose is given in 2-3 divided and equal doses every 8-12 hours.
